Assam: 4 ULFA militants arrested

A joint team of Assam Police and Indian Army has apprehended four militants of the United Liberation Front of Assam from Anthgaon in Kamrup district of the state following an encounter.

The arrested militants -- armed with rocket launchers, grenades and pistols -- were hiding in the residence of a villager after killing one Ratan Deka, an employee of a college in Guwahati,

on Friday night. The slain college employee was believed to have been motivating villagers in the area not to offer shelter to any ULFA militant.

The ULFA militants were identified as Harekrishna Deka alias Chiraz, Tapan Kalita alias Utpal, Bikash Media alias Abbas Ali and Diganta Kalita. One of the militants – Tapan -- received injuries on his hands during the encounter.
