BJP leader L K Advani [Images] on Saturday blamed the lack of tough anti-terror laws and weak intelligence machinery for the spate of serial blasts but would not come to a conclusion that BJP-ruled states are being targeted.
"It looks like our anti-terror legal framework is not upto the mark and it got exposed," he said reacting to the serial bomb blasts in Ahmedabad close on the heels of similar blasts in Bangalore on Friday.
Asked whether BJP-ruled states were targeted in the recent series of blasts, Advani said, "I cannot make a conclusion on that. It is a matter of probe by intelligence agencies".
He said the explosions were part of the "sinister design" of terrorist organisations to create panic and divide society.
Advani, who is the Lok Sabha member from Gandhinagar, Gujarat, asked the central government to take immediate steps to deal with the situation arising from the consecutive terror incidents in two major cities.
He said after abolition of Prevention of Terrorism Act, Gujarat has adopted a Maharashtra-type anti-terror law, which is awaiting Presidential assent for four years. Advani demanded that both Gujarat and Rajasthan should be allowed to go for it. Asked whether it was an attempt to provoke, Advani said, "generally it happens". He said explosions were a matter of concern for the whole country.
The Leader of the Opposition said he had spoken to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi [Images] who said by and large the law and order situation in the state was "extremely satisfactory".
