A Border Security Force jawan was killed when the security forces foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir [Images] on Tuesday, leading to a gun battle between the two sides, official sources said.

A group of militants infiltrated into Indian territory from Doba Dacha Doke forward area of the Sabzian belt in Poonch district on Sunday, following a gun battle between the terrorists and the BSF.

Head constable Bhawanar Singh of 199 battalion of the BSF was killed during the encounter, while the terrorists managed to escape.

This is the second infiltration bid by the militants in the area during the past three days.
