Two terrorists, including the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Tayiba's chief operational commander for Kashmir region, were killed in a gunfight in Pulwama district on Thursday.

Based on a tip-off, a team of security personnel raided a house at Naina-Batpora village in Pulwama on Thursday morning, official sources said.

The terrorists opened fire on the search party, leading to a gun battle in which the two LeT terrorists were killed, the sources said, adding that the exchange of fire lasted for several hours.

One of the two terrorists has been identified as Atif, chief operational commander of the LeT, the sources said. The identity of the other terrorist is yet to be ascertained.

Atif was wanted in a number of cases, including the killing of Pampore station house officer Manzoor Ahmad last year, the sources said.
