Protesting against a comment allegedly critical of their founder-leader Thol Thirmavalavan in the Tamil daily Dinamalar, activists of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, a ruling Democratic Progressive Alliance constituent, on Thursday attacked the office of the daily in Chennai.

According to the police and Dinamalar sources, about 20 VCK activists, armed with clubs and glass bottles, attacked two security men on duty, injuring one of them.

They also damaged window panes and an attendance-reading machine put up at the office entrance. However, the VCK activists could not gain access into the main office as an iron gate leading to the premises was immediately closed by the staff on duty, sources said. The chaos prevailed for about ten minutes.

Based on a complaint from the daily's management, the police detained two VCK workers for questioning.
