Former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal was on Monday unanimously elected leader of Congress legislature party in the Punjab assembly.

"As per unanimous resolution of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Legislature Party, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has selected Rajinder Kaur Bhattal to be the leader of CLP in Punjab Vidhan Sabha," party general secretary Janardan Dwiwedi said in a statement.

He also said that Congress chief had accepted the resignation of Punjab PCC chief Shamsher Singh Dullo, but had asked him to continue on the post till the appointment of the next PCC president.

Dullo had earlier resigned from the post owning moral responsibility for the defeat of the party in the recent assembly polls, Dwiwedi said.
