Nearly two months after being disqualified from the Rajya Sabha over the office of profit issue, noted film actress Jaya Bachchan resigned as chairperson of Uttar Pradesh Film Development Corporation on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav accepted her resignation, an official spokesman said in Lucknow.

Yadav appointed Jaya as the chairperson of the corporation with a cabinet minister rank on October 10, 2003, soon after he took over the reins of the state.

President oks Jaya Bachchan's disqualification

She had resigned from UPFDC chairpersonship earlier also before being elected to the Upper House of Parliament on a Samajwadi Party ticket on July 4, 2004, but was reappointed to the post ten days later.

The noted actress was disqualified from RS on March 16 following a petition by the Election Commission accusing her of holding an office of profit as chairperson of the corporation.
