The Congress has been allotted 48 seats as part of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led six party Democratic Progressive Alliance for the Tamil Nadu assembly polls on May 8.

An agreement to this effect was signed between Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president M Krishnasamy and DMK President M Karunanidhi on Thursday.

The Congress and the then-Tamil Maanila Congress had been allotted 45 seats by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in the 2001 assembly polls. In the last Lok Sabha elections, Congress won all 10 of the seats it contested.
