JK: Eight detained for staging protests

Police on Tuesday detained Javid Ahmad Mir, the leader of the breakaway faction of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Javid Ahmad Mir and seven of his party colleagues for staging a demonstration in violation of prohibitory orders in Srinagar [Images].

Mir, accompanied by several dozen party colleagues, staged a protest at Pratap Park shouting slogans demanding the release of political prisoners and an end to alleged human rights violations.

Those arrested were lodged at the Kothibagh police station.
