Mumbai police on Thursday arrested Shah Alam, an associate of gangster Abu Salem [Images], in connection with the Ajit Dewani murder case.

A local court later remanded Salem and Alam to police custody till February 15.
Dewani, secretary to Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala [Images], was murdered in 2001 at Salem's behest after he failed to pay extortion money, police said, alleging that Alam was a conduit between Salem and Dewani's killers, and that he had provided murderers arms to kill the victim.
Salem, deported from Portugal last year, is now in Mumbai crime branch custody.
