A 10-member central flood assessment team headed by Union joint secretary D S Mishra commenced its visit to the rain ravaged districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

The team, after visiting the affected areas on Tuesday and Wednesday, would meet senior state government officials evening and leave for New Delhi Wednesday night. Mishra told reporters at Chennai airport that the team would split into five groups and visit different affected districts.

On Wednesday the team would hold a meeting with state government officials and submit its report within a week, he said. This is the second team to visit and assess the damages caused by rains. The earlier team had arrived here 10-days ago and had submitted its report to the Centre.
