Five persons, including four homeguards, were killed and 16 others injured when Maoists attacked a homeguard training centre at Pachamba in Giridih town, a senior police official said.

The Maoists also looted 183 rifles, two pistols and 2500 cartridges from the centre, Superintendent of Police Bhageswar Jha said, adding that one of the deceased was a civilian.

Over a hundred Maoists swooped down the centre at around 6 pm and opened fire indiscriminately, before escaping with the weapons on three different directions, he said.
