A Chennai-based company on Monday launched a generator that produces water from the atmosphere.

"The Humidous (sic) Drinking Water Generator of Esjaypee Mercantile & Marketing (P) Ltd produces water from the atmosphere through a eco-friendly technology, using the humidity in the air," a company official said.

It has a capacity to generate up to 28 litres of pure water per day from air, the officials said.

"Air is drawn and cleaned by an electro static air-filtering system to produce the water, which has been tested for its quality and purity," Tanya Parmar, company executive director said.

She said the generator was capable of harvesting water from the atmosphere if the humidity level was 30 per cent or above, which is a normal feature in most parts of the country.

Priced at Rs 23,850 per unit, the generator would be launched in Kolkata and Mumbai in the coming months.
