With the monsoon continuing its northward advance, the weather department is expecting its onset in Delhi within the next five days.

"The normal date for the onset of monsoon in Delhi is June 29. Rains seven days before or after this date is considered normal," Dr S C Bhan of the Indian Meteorological Department said in Delhi on Friday.

"The monsoon may progress over Delhi within these seven days after June 29," he said.

Thunderstorms with some rains are expected over Delhi in next two-three days, he said.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has progressed over remaining parts of Maharasthra, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand, entire Chattisgarh, some more parts of east Uttar Pradesh, Saurashtra, Kutch and Gujarat, and southern parts of Madhya Pradesh, he said.

In the next two-three days, pre-monsoon showers are expected in west Uttar Pradesh, he said.

The heat wave has ended all over the country except extreme northern parts of Rajasthan, he said.
