The No One Central Hospital in Tianjin city in northern China has set a world record in conducting the maximum number of liver transplants in a year, a local health bureau said.

Doctors at the hospital conducted 507 transplants and helped other hospitals complete 300 similar operations last year, accounting for one-third of such operations conducted nationwide, the Xinhua news agency reported.

This placed the Oriental Organ Transplant Centre of the hospital among the leading liver transplant institutes in the world, the bureau added.

According to the bureau, the figures dwarfed the record set by the Organ Transplant Centre of the Pittsburgh University, USA. The university had kept the record for nearly 10 years.

Last year, the hospital also conducted 367 kidney transplants, the highest among Chinese hospitals, the report said.
