Jharkhand Mukhti Morcha chief and Union Minister Sibu Soren's son, Hemant, on Saturday filed nomination papers from Dumka constituency for the assembly polls in the state.

Hemant will contest against senior leader Stephen Marandi, who has filed nominations as an Independent candidate on Friday.

Dumka is one of the 28 constituencies going to polls in the final phase of the three-phase exercise on February 23.

Talking about Marandi's decision to go against Soren's wishes, Hemant said, "All efforts are on to persuade him to withdraw from the fray." Hemant, however, said he was confident of winning the seat even if Marandi did not withdraw.

Marandi, a Rajya Sabha member and JMM's second-in-command after Soren, said he disagreed with Soren for allegedly promoting dynastic politics in Jharkhand.

Marandi's rebellion came after Soren ignored his request for contesting from Dumka. Marandi has won the seat four times till 2000.
