Murugan, who has been sentenced to death for the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, on Thursday, ended his fast over refusal of visa to his daughter to enter India from Sri Lanka [Images], at the Central Prison in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, Jail Superintendent R Ramachandran told UNI.

He had been on fast since December 15.

His daughter Arithra, who is a Sri Lankan citizen, will now be able to meet her parents Murugan and Nalini, who is also serving a life sentence in the same case in the Special Prison for Women in Vellore.

According to Ramachandran, Murugan broke his fast following a call from Nalini's Chennai-based brother Bhagyanathan, that the authorities had given an assurance to issue the visa.
