The three-day 10th meeting of the Indo-US Army Executive Steering Group commenced at Lucknow Wednesday at Headquarters Central Command.

A delegation led by Lt Gen M Brown III, commanding general, United States Army Pacific, co-chair Indo-US Army ESG met with their Indian counterparts led by Lt Gen Madan Gopal, director general, Military Operations, co-chair Indo-US Army ESG.

Of late, Indo-US defence cooperation has made good progress in areas of expert exchanges, visits, seminars/courses as well as joint combined exercises.

During the past two years, seven joint combined army excercises had been conducted in both the US and India with the scope ranging from counter terrorism to airborne operations.

The pace of this cooperation, so far, has been measured but robust.

The objectives presently are to promote mutual understanding, cooperation in areas of mutual interest and promote ability to operate co-jointly.

This cooperation is conducted on the basis of reciprocity, equality and pragmatism with both sides learning from each other as also enhancing exposure to latest equipment and technology.
