Girl rescued from bar raped by guard

June 30, 2004 18:16 IST

Mumbai Police are in search of a security guard of the government rehabilitation centre in suburban Trombay for allegedly sexually exploiting a minor girl who was brought there after she was rescued from a dancing bar in south Mumbai some months ago.

The girl was rescued by police eight months ago from a dance bar in Nagpada locality in central Mumbai where she was found kept in illegal confinement along with 12 other girls, police sources said.

However, the physical security of four walls inside the rehabilitation centre proved of little use to the girl as she was allegedly exploited by a person who was supposed to protect her.

The security guard, Deepak Ganpat Mahagade, is absconding after centre authorities found that the girl was pregnant and upon questioning she revealed that Mahagade had sexually abused her, police said.

The Trombay Police have booked a case of rape against Mahagade on the girl's complaint.
