Mishap: Tracks to be cleared by afternoon

June 17, 2004 10:35 IST

Restoration work was still in progress to clear the track at Ambawali, the site where the Matsyagandha Express derailed yesterday killing 14 persons and injuring 60 others, on the Konkan Railway (KR) route.

"Around three coaches are yet to be cleared from the track. The work is still in progress," according to Konkan Railway PRO Vaishali Patange.

"We expect the work to be completed by this afternoon and the train services would be normalised on the route soon after that," she told PTI.

Fourteen people were killed and 62 injured when the Mumbai-bound Matsyagandha Express from Mangalore derailed after hitting boulders on the tracks over a bridge at Ambawali, nearly 200 kms from Mumbai.
