Focus on making police serve people better: A N Roy

Pune Police Commissioner A N Roy, who will replace P S Pasricha as Mumbai Police Commissioner, said his main task would be to ensure that people feel comfortable to go to police for help.

"Mumbai is a very big city and the post is a very responsible one. I will try my best to fulfil the expectations of the people," he said.

On what he would do to boost the morale of the police, which has gone down following the fake stamp racket, he said, "My focus would be on fostering team spirit in the police force."

Describing his 13-month tenure in Pune as 'quite satisfactory', Roy said his community policing initiative had evoked a good response but admitted that crime detection needs improvement. But he said it is gratifying that people are now feeling more comfortable to file complaints with the police.
