Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court seeking bail in the Sankararaman murder case.

The seer has been lodged in the Vellore prison since his arrest on November 11 in connection with the murder of Sankararaman, who was the manager of the Kanchipuram Varadaraja Perumal temple.

The seer, in his petition challenging the Madras high court order refusing him bail, said the HC had erred in its judgment by not considering the basis of facts narrated by the prosecution.

He said the HC refused him bail on the basis of the law laid down by the SC in the Pappu Yadav case.

The Kanchi Shankaracharya said the Tamil Nadu police have not been able to clarify on what basis the allegations were made against him. Hence, he should be granted bail, he contended.
