Godhra panel admits application for examining Zaheera

The commission inquiring the Godhra riots has admitted an application seeking to cross-examine Zaheera Sheikh, the key witness in the Best Bakery case, in connection with an affidavit filed by her before the it.

Zaheera Sheikh, in the affidavit filed two years back, had named 21 persons as being responsible for the attack on the bakery on February 28, 2002.

The commission, comprising Justice (retd) G T Nanavati and Justice (retd) K G Shah, gave the state government advocates time till December 20 to file replies to the application, filed by advocate Mukul Sinha of Jan Sangarsh Manch.

Sinha also filed applications seeking the presence of three officials of the Gujarat Directorate of Forensic Sciences during the cross-examination.
