Zaheera's elder sister changes stand

December 01, 2004 23:11 IST

In a setback to the prosecution in the Best Bakery trial, eyewitness Saira Sheikh, the elder sister of Zaheera Sheikh, on Wednesday feigned ignorance about the identity of factory workers.

Deposing before the court, she denied knowledge about Quasar Ali, her maternal uncle, who worked at the bakery.

Saira, who got married two years back and moved to Ekta Nagar society in Panigate area of Vadodara, told the special court that she did not know the names of any of the bakery workers.

Saira also said that she did not know about the number of workers employed in the bakery.

To a pointed question from the special prosecutor Manjula Rao, Saira accepted that she knew Quasar and said he was her mama (uncle). But, she added that her father and Quasar were not on good terms.

Saira had turned hostile during the trial in the fast track court at Vadodara and has given indications of doing the same in Mumbai.

Her examination will continue on Thursday.
