Spurned lover throws acid at woman

A 30-year-old electrician was arrested in Mumbai on charges of throwing acid on a woman after she turned down his marriage proposal.

According to the police, the woman was on Tuesday standing at a bus stop in Goregaon in northwest Mumbai when the accused along with a friend approached her and threw acid at her. The woman was rushed to Cooper Hospital where she is undergoing treatment.

The accused and the woman had known each other for some time. However, she turned down his marriage proposal due to his aggressive and violent streak, police said adding the accused had earlier gone to the woman's house and threatened to set her ablaze for spurning him.

A search is on for his accomplice.
