A Singaporean has tested positive for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome virus, according to CNN.

It said health officials confirmed the case after a second test was carried out on the 27-year-old on Tuesday.

"It appears to be a single isolated case," the health ministry said in a statement.

Singapore's Straits Times newspaper said the man works in a virology laboratory and has not travelled to China or Hong Kong recently.

He has been placed in isolation at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore's dedicated facility for SARS cases.

The outbreak of the disease, thought to have originated in southern China's Guangdong province, killed more than 800 people earlier this year.
