At least two soldiers were killed and eight wounded when their bus was hit by an improvised explosive device at Khilani on the Jammu-Doda highway on Tuesday afternoon.

A senior police officer in Doda said that the bus was part an army convoy on its way to Jammu.

"The bus was damaged extensively in the explosion. Two army soldiers died on the spot and eight were wounded," the officer said.

A few of the injured have been taken to a local hospital and those wounded seriously are being moved to Udhampur.

Jamait-ul-Mujahideen, a pro-Pakistan outfit, owned responsibility for the attack.

A JUM spokesman, who identifed himself as Jameel Ahmed, telephoned the PTI office and said that his outfit triggered the Doda explosion.
