Case of fraud against Daler Mehndi

October 06, 2003 17:32 IST

The Punjab police have registered a case of fraud and cheating against singer Daler Mehndi, his brother Shamsher and three others.

The case has been registered at Patiala on a complaint from one Bakshish Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police Paramraj Singh Umranangal said on Monday.

The complainant said the singer had taken Rs13 lakh from him with a promise to take him abroad.

The police arrested Shamsher Mehndi near the Punjabi University Campus at Patiala while he was on his way to receive an instalment of money from Bakshish Singh, the SSP said.

He said the singer and others have been charged with promising to take people as part of their troupe and then leaving them in Canada and the United States.

Shamsher Mehndi is being interrogated while police parties have been sent to nab Daler Mehndi and the others.
