Gangster Ezaz Lakdawala shot dead in Bangkok

May 26, 2003 20:30 IST

The Chhota Shakeel gang has killed underworld don Ezaz Lakdawala in Bangkok, media reports said on Monday.

Bangkok-based Lakdawala was initially associated with the Chhota Rajan gang. Later he started out on his own.

Of late, Lakdawala was understood to have tied up with another gang led by Fazal-ur-Rehman alias Fazlu.

He indulged in extortion and had targeted prominent businessmen and film personalities in Mumbai.

The Mumbai police, while confirming that Lakdawala has been shot at, refused to say whether he was dead.

The Thai police, however, said an Indian businessman was fired at and critically wounded.

Though the police did not identify him nor gave any further details, sources said the victim seemed to be Lakdawala.

The incident reportedly took place at the Bobei market in Bangkok when Lakdawala and his wife were returning after dinner.
