NSG to help probe Vile Parle blast

A team of the National Security Guards will assist in the probe into Monday night's explosion at Vile Parle, Mumbai.

The team will coordinate with forensic experts to determine the type of explosive that was used in the blast, which killed a woman and injured 30, Assistant Commissioner of Police Vivek Jadhav said.

According to Jadhav, 29 were admitted to Cooper Hospital, Nanawati Hospital and KEM Hospital, while one was discharged after treatment.

The police suspect it to be a crude bomb and are on the lookout for a bicycle rider who is suspected to have dropped the explosive, he said.

At around 0100 IST there was another blast at around 100 yards from the site of the first explosion. No one was hurt

Police have cordoned off the market area and search operations are being conducted.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened in view of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's visit to Mumbai.

The police resorted to naka bandis and stepped up combing operations.

Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal visited the site of the blast on Tuesday morning.
