Tamil Nadu declared drought hit

January 23, 2003 12:11 IST

The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday declared all the districts in the state, barring Chennai, as drought hit areas.

Making the announcement in his address to the state assembly, Governor P S Ramamohan Rao said the state would be approaching the Centre for a relief package to tackle the drought.

The government's announcement would enable comprehensive relief works to be taken up in all the 28 affected districts,
he said.
