Maha CM summoned to Delhi by Cong high command

January 13, 2003 15:12 IST

Amidst reports of revamping of the party organisation in Maharashtra, the Congress high command summoned Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh for a meeting on Monday evening in New Delhi.

Deshmukh was scheduled to leave for Delhi by an afternoon flight to meet party president Sonia Gandhi, party sources said.

Supporters and opponents of the chief minister are already camping in New Delhi.

On several occasions in the past Deshmukh's detractors have sought his removal from the chief minister's post. On each occasion the high command rejected their demand. Would Sonia heed their request now when the assembly election in the state are less than two years away, remains to be seen.
