UP Cong rebel charged with murder bid

February 07, 2003 20:13 IST

The Uttar Pradesh police on Friday filed a case of attempt to murder against Akhil Bharatiya Congress Dal MLA Akhilesh Singh, a day after they raided his house in Rae Bareli.

Public works department engineer Shiv Dayal Pandey had lodged a complaint against Singh, on the basis of which the police lodged a case. Pandey claimed he and five others had been abducted and beaten up by the MLA, who also threatened to kill him.

Singh had formed ABCD with the support of seven other Congress MLAs, who have since joined Mayawait's Bahujan Samaj Party and also been inducted into the Mayawati Cabinet.

Mayawati had on Thursday said that Singh wanted to join the BSP but his request had been turned down.
