'Insects found' in infant milk powder

December 31, 2003 17:37 IST

Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Uttamrao Khobragade on Tuesday ordered withdrawal of Amulspray infant milk powder from Mumbai with immediate effect.

Investigations were being carried out on samples collected from a particular batch that, according to a complaint filed by a woman, contained insects.

The FDA commissioner said on Wednesday: "I have also ordered authorities to file an FIR [first information report] against the manufacturer and marketing agency of Amulspray."

"Although we are investigating the particular batch of the milk powder, we have given orders to withdraw the milk powder from the entire city markets as we do not want to take risk with infant lives," he said.

He added that steps would be taken to ensure that such products were stored properly.
