Welcome to the coverage of the Indian Premier League 2025 match No. 69 between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, on Monday, May 26, 2025.
Having already qualified for the playoffs, both Punjab and Mumbai will be keen to complete their league assignments with a win and clinch a top-two spot, which will guarantee them two shots at the final.
The top two teams on the points table will play the Qualifier 1.
The teams finishing third and fourth will face off in the Eliminator and the loser of that match will get eliminated.
The team losing the Qualifier 1 will get another chance to reach the final when they play the winner of the Eliminator.
With 17 points from 13 matches, Punjab currently occupy the second spot, but a defeat to MI will push them to the third or the fourth spot, consigning them to the Eliminator scheduled for May 30.
If they manage to beat the formidable Mumbai, they will be assured of a top-two finish.
Mumbai, who have 16 points from 13 games, can seal their top-two spot with a win.
Their superior net run rate (+1.292) among all the top four teams will push them ahead of Gujarat Titans (+0.254), who are currently atop the points table with 18 points, but have completed all their 14 league matches.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the fourth team in the playoffs, have 17 points. They will be in pursuit of a top-two finish when they lock horns with Lucknow Super Giants in the final league match of IPL 2025 on Tuesday.
Against Punjab, Mumbai will start as favourites given their performance in must-win league games over the years.
They hold a slight edge in head-to-head battles as well, having won 17 out of 33 matches played between the two teams.
