New Zealand-South Africa match washed out

Geoff Young | February 24, 2004 10:41 IST

The fourth one-day international between New Zealand and South Africa was abandoned because of rain without a ball being bowled on Tuesday.

The game will now take place on the official reserve day on Wednesday.

The rain began shortly before the 1400 (local time) start and did not stop until 1645.

When the umpires then inspected the pitch they decided the ground would not have sufficient time to dry enough even for a 25-overs-a-side game.

New Zealand lead the six-match series 2-1.
