Smith suffered a fracture to his left thumb in practice between the second and third Tests and was advised on Friday to rest it for three weeks.

The injury will be reassessed on April 23 which means he will definitely miss the fourth and final Test as well as the first match in the seven-game one-day series, scheduled for Guyana on April 18.

The left-hander is the only West Indian to score a century in the series so far with a battling 108 in the first innings of the first Test in Jamaica.

England lead the Test series 2-0 and are bidding to win in the Caribbean for the first time since 1968.
