Anil Kumble bereaved

November 04, 2003 17:26 IST

Leg-spinner Anil Kumble's father K N Krishnaswamy passed away at a hospital in Bangalore on Monday night after a brief illness.

Krishnaswamy was 68 and is survived by his wife and two sons.

Kumble has opted out of Thursday's triangular series one-day game against New Zealand in Cuttack following his father's demise.

"Kumble has informed the board of his unavailability due to the sudden demise of his father K N Krishnaswamy," honorary secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, S K Nair said.

"Sairaj Bahutule is likely to replace Kumble but a final decision would be taken by the selectors and the team management," Nair added.

Kumble would join the team for the November 12 match here against Australia.
