Congress President Sonia Gandhi was admitted to a Delhi hospital on Monday following viral fever and was recovering.

Gandhi, 69, was brought to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital around 8 pm on Monday and doctors treating her said she was feeling much better.

"Sonia Gandhi has been admitted under the care of Dr Arun Kumar Basu, senior consultant in Department of Chest and Pulmonology Medicine and his team of consultants. Gandhi's routine tests are being conducted and is better today. She is likely to be discharged in a day or two," Chairman of the hospital's Board of Management D S Rana said.

Gandhi's daughter Priyanka has been with her while son Rahul visited her on Tuesday.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said there was no cause for worry and the party president will resume Parliament duty soon.

"The Congress president has been admitted to a hospital following viral fever. She will be discharged within two days. She will resume her Parliament duty soon. There is no cause for worry," he said.

Gandhi had to stay at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for 12 days in August after she had fallen ill during a roadshow in Varanasi. She was operated upon for a shoulder injury also.
