Former Bihar minister Aditya Singh was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder by a fast-track court in Nawada district on Wednesday.

Singh, along with three others, was convicted by the court on Tuesday in connection with the killing of Lalalan Singh, a mukhiya (head) of Sakarpur village in Nawada district on January 6, 2006.

Singh, a known bahubali (strongman), faces several criminal cases, including murder, kidnapping and extortion. He was the state minister for animal husbandry in the Rabri Devi government.

Several criminal politicians have been convicted in Bihar in the recent past, thanks to the speedy trial process started by the Nitish Kumar government.

According to official sources, over 15,000 criminals were convicted by the fast track courts in Bihar.
