Remembering Yash Chopra on Rediff

Yash Chopra's would have turned 81 today, September 27, had he been alive.

The versatile director who passed away last year gave us some of the finest films.

We look back at some of our best memories of the veteran filmmaker on rediff.com.

Yash Chopra's contribution to Indian cinema has been huge, and he's told some great stories through his movies.

In his career, which began in 1969, Chopra had made an extraordinarily grand and invaluable contribution to Hindi cinema through his vivid interpretations of romance, comments on pedantic social structures, fascinating journeys into the human psyche, larger-than-life portrayals of the anti-hero and an undying celebration of life, culture, beauty and nature.

Of the 22 films he's directed himself, some are outright classics, others are nice but even his most middling efforts are immensely watchable.

We pay a tribute to the legend with this compilation of his Best Films.

Amitabh Bachchan, who worked in memorable Yash Chopra films like Kabhi Kabhie and Silsila, paid a moving tribute to the veteran filmmaker in his blog post.

The legendary actor, who'd known Chopra for over 40 years and last met him during his birthday celebrations reminisced about the precious moments he spent in the late filmmaker's company as he paid him last visit at the Yash Raj Studio in Andheri, a western Mumbai suburb.

We present some excerpts here.
