Commodity market regulator Forward Markets Commission may not allow futures trading in cement. The proposal for cement futures trading was submitted to the apex commodity market regulator by the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange.

FMC Member Kewal Ram said that the regulator has expressed reservations on futures trading in cement.

"At one stage we said no, but NCDEX approached us again and we have not decided whether to allow cement

trading," Ram said.

The FMC Member said cement was not suitable for futures trading right now, though government lists cement as one of the several commodities that can be traded through the exchanges.

NCDEX had approached FMC for cement futures last year.
