In the midst of a war of words between the two countries, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Wednesday expressed his desire to meet his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh.The Chinese leader's remarks come a day after Beijing raked up its claim over Arunachal Pradesh, questioning Prime Minister Singh's visit there on October 3. India hit back on Wednesday, reacting strongly to Chinese plans to get involved in projects in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir.

The Chinese government on Tuesday conveyed its 'anger and concern' to Britain over a protester throwing a shoe at Premier Wen Jiabao, but said bilateral ties would not be harmed. The Chinese side has expressed its 'strong dissatisfaction' over the incident, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said in a statement. The Chinese said that the British government has expressed deep regret and informed that the police had arrested the 27-year old man, who hurled a shoe.

The number of dead and missing in China's worst earthquake in recent decades is nearing 90,000, as visiting United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon flew into the disaster zone on Saturday and pledged the world body's support for the relief work. Chinese premier Wen Jiabao briefed the UN Secretary General on quake relief efforts and said China would carry out reconstruction as soon as possible. Wen told Ban that the quake had claimed more than 60,000 lives in Sichuan province.
