Sun Pharmaceutical Industries on Tuesday said its arm DUSA Pharmaceuticals Inc has reached settlement with Biofrontera to resolve a litigation over misappropriation of trade secrets and unfair practice, following which DUSA will receive $22.5 million (nearly Rs 170 crore). In 2018, DUSA Pharmaceuticals had filed a suit at the US District Court of Massachusetts against Biofrontera Inc Biofrontera Bioscience GmbH, Biofrontera Pharma GmbH, and Biofrontera AG (together known as Biofrontera) alleging "misappropriation of trade secrets, tortious interference of contract and unfair trade practices".
For a company that started in 1983 with just five people and five products, it's no mean achievement that Sun Pharma today commands the largest market capitalisation of Rs 21,271 crore (Rs 212.71 billion) in the pharma universe.

Sun Pharma stated the company wanted shareholders' approval to "issue, offer and allot equity shares or non-convertible securities, other than warrants, up to an amount of Rs 12,000 crore ($2 billion), to qualified institutional buyers pursuant to a QIP."

Last month, the high court had ordered an interim status quo on the $4-billion deal, after a suit from some individual investors alleged insider trading in Ranbaxy's shares by Silverstreet Developers, Sun's wholly owned arm, before the deal was announced on April 6.

Drug maker Sun Pharmaceutical Industries on Thursday said it has received the US health regulator's nod for marketing a generic version of the Keppra injection, used for treating epilepsy, in the American market.

There is, of course, no litigation with the patent holder OrthoMcneill Janssen. The US market, which brings in about 40 per cent of Sun's consolidated sales and has driven revenues in the past few year could lose momentum.
