The Jammu and Kashmir police arrested two people who were involved in the killing of Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq, 33 years after the then chief priest of the Valley fell to the bullets of Hizbul Mujahideen assassins, a senior police officer said in Srinagar on Tuesday.

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday evening released chairman of the hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik and chairman of moderate faction of Hurriyat Mirwaiz Umer Farooq.They were arrested ahead of their march to Lal Chowk last month. Geelani was taken to a hospital in Srinagar on Monday evening, after he complained of sickness in police custody.
The Mirwaiz said that the attack was the 'handiwork of forces who were opposed to peace in Kashmir.'
While Mirwaiz Farooq was assassinated inside his Nageen residence in capital city this day in 1990, Abdul Gani Lone, the founder of Peoples Conference (PC) fell to assassin's bullets the same day in 2002.
On the Indian side two civilians -- Nageen Akhtar and Riyaz Ahmed -- were critically injured in the skirmish between Indian and Pakistani troops.

All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Umar Farooq was on Tuesday afternoon detained by police outside the Rajbagh headquarters of the conglomerate while on he was on his way to curfew-bound Shopian town in south Kashmir.
