In 2003, several militants belonging to the dreaded outfit Lashkar-e-Tayiba were arrested along the Rajasthan border when they were trying to cross over to Pakistan. During interrogations, it was found that the Ajmer dargah was on their list of targets. Moreover, several detailed maps of the dargah were also found on them. These militants reportedly told the police that they were sent to India on a mission and they had also planned to target holy sites in Hyderabad, Delhi

The Rajasthan government on Friday constituted a Special Investigating Team to probe the terror attack on Khwaja Mohiuddin Chisti's dargah at Ajmer which had killed three persons and injured many more on Thursday. Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta said that the SIT will interact with central security agencies to find out which organisation had masterminded Thursday's blast. The blast had aimed at disturbing the communal harmony in the city, Gupta said.

Investigators probing the acts of terror allegedly carried out by right-wing groups at Malegaon, Ajmer and Hyderabad are now looking for one Swami Aseemanand and his accomplice.The police have been looking for Swami Aseemanand since the Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad arrested Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur in October 2009 in connection with the Malegaon blasts. The ATS had picked up incriminating intercepts of his conversation with the Sadhvi.
