The Delhi government on Wednesday approved a proposal seeking a hike in the salaries of members of legislative assembly and ministers by up to 300 percent, citing inflation and increased cost of living in the capital, three months after the Centre rejected a similar request. A meeting of the Delhi Cabinet presided by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit cleared the proposal, which will now be sent to the home ministry for approval.

Officials in the Transport Department said all permit holders of autorickshaws in the city were told in November last year to apply for smart card-based permits as part of the government's efforts to maintain proper records of the three-wheelers.Despite extending the date for applying for smart card-based permits several times in the last one year, over 10,491 permit holders failed to apply for the same.

Unlike other stadia, upgradation of which is being undertaken by government agencies like the DDA and NDMC, the tennis venue was completed by the All India Tennis Association (AITA).

The Delhi Jal Board had rejected the findings of international scientific journal Lancet, she said. "The Delhi Jal Board has very categorically said that this is not the case. I am in touch with the CEO and he said that it is not so. So please don't spread panic," she said.
