Reliance Globalcom, a leading global provider of international wholesale telecom services with a presence in high growth emerging and developed markets, on Tuesday announced that it is upgrading its European Network with coherent 100G technology.
The company will structure its services under four business segments -- Data, voice, WiMax and National Long Distance services -- that would help it increase focus on customer segments and improve revenue generation. The group will realign operations of Reliance Globalcom (formerly Flag Telecom), Reliance Globalcom Services (earlier acquired Yipes Enterprises) and Reliance Vanco Group (formerly Vanco Group) under the four proposed verticals.
The unit of Reliance Communications may raise debt, equity
Reliance Globalcom will become the holding company for the global operations of Reliance Communications (which offers voice services like Reliance India Call, Reliance Global Call, Reliance Netcall and Reliance Passport), the submarine cable subsidiary Flag Telecom and the recently acquired US-based Yipes Enterprise Service (an Ethernet technology major).
The company will also make a $500 million (Rs 2,000 crore) investment through the acquired company in the next 2-3 years to build and acquire WiMax networks across 50 countries. Worldwide interoperability for microwave access or WiMax is a telecommunications technology that provides wireless data over long distances through various mediums. This is the third acquisition by the company as it had acquired US-based ethernet services provider Yipes Holdings for $300 million.
Reliance Communications brings all its global initiative under a single brand name of Reliance Globalcomm and renames FLAG Telecom as Reliance FLAG.
As per the company website, Reliance Globalcom owns undersea cable system spanning 65,000 km, which connects 40 business markets in India, Middle East, Asia, Europe, and the US.
