A Mumbai sessions court on Monday convicted Pravin Mahajan of the murder of his elder brother and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan. The judge relied on the statements of Pramod's wife Rekha, servant Mahesh and Pramod's own statement made to the BJP leader and brother-in-law Gopinath Munde while on his way to the hospital.
Though it did strike him to give the statement earlier, he could not as Mahajan was critical and his sister-in-law Rekha was not keeping well.
During the cross-examination of Hanif Tahirali alias Bandukwala who sold the gun to Pravin, it was revealed that the statement recorded on May 12 last year was dated April 12, 2006, which made it prior to the commission of the crime.
Pramod Mahajan's close aides, Sudhanshu Mittal and Harish Sharma, have also been summoned.\n
Pramod's brother-in-law Gopinath Munde's statement has come as shot in the arm for the prosecutors in the case.
Mahajan was known for his ability to carry with him friends and opponents alike, the tributes said.

Proceedings in the case have been adjourned to January 31 when the prosecution is expected to submit a list of documents it will rely on to prove its case.
