The Indian Premier League franchises have been given the option of retaining five players, while the salary cap for the entire squad has been fixed at Rs 60 crore for the 2014 season, the IPL governing council announced on Tuesday. The 2014 IPL auction will be held on February 12, with the option of extending it to the next day, if necessary. The venue for the same is yet to be decided upon.

The Indian Premier League players' auction for season 10, which will be the final edition under the existing 10-year contract, will be held in Bengaluru next month. The IPL franchises' workshop will be organised in Dubai, decided the event's Governing Council in a meeting in New Delhi. It was learnt that centres in Maharashtra such as Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur will be allowed to hold matches in the 10th edition of the tournament that started in 2008 amid much fanfare.

The 10th edition of Indian Premier League may begin from April 5 next year, less than a week after the Test series against Australia ends on March 29, while the players' auction will be held in Bengaluru on February 4. IPL Governing Council chairman Rajeev Shukla announced this following a meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday, adding that no decision was taken in violation of the Supreme Court-appointed Justice Lodha Committee directives.
